About Steve

I’m Steve Dunphy, a photographer based in Newfoundland.

My work is rooted in presence — the moment when someone stops performing for the camera and simply exists within the frame.

Philosophy

Photography, for me, is less about directing and more about observing.

Whether I am working on a portrait, an environmental image, or a more symbolic piece, I’m looking for the moment when something genuine appears — when a person becomes comfortable enough to simply be present.

I’m drawn to quiet strength, natural light, and the environments that shape how people carry themselves.

Background

Outside of photography, I’m also a maker and woodworker. I’m drawn to things that are built slowly and with intention.

That same approach carries into my photography. I value patience, trust, and the quiet details that reveal character.

I’m interested in people, the places they inhabit, and the moments where personality and environment come together naturally.

The goal is simple: to create photographs that feel honest — images that hold a moment of presence long after it has passed.
